"Allāh has given an excuse to a servant whom He has kept alive until sixty or seventy years; indeed, Allāh has given him an excuse." The ḥāfiẓ said: "And this unidentified man is Maʿn ibn Muḥammad al-Ghifārī, thus it is a strong corroboration for ʿUmar ibn ʿAlī. It was also narrated by al-Ismāʿīlī from another route from Maʿmar." I said: It was also narrated by al-Ḥākim through the route of Muṭarrif ibn Māzin who said: Maʿmar ibn Rāshid narrated to us, I heard Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Ghifārī from al-Maqburī with it. And he remained silent about it. And this Muṭarrif is accused. As for the corroboration of Abū Ḥāzim, who is Salamah ibn Dīnār, it was narrated by Aḥmad (2/417) who said: Qutaybah narrated to us, he said: Yaʿqūb narrated to us from Abū Ḥāzim from Saʿīd ibn Abī Saʿīd al-Maqburī with it and its wording: "Whoever Allāh has given life until sixty years, Allāh has given him an excuse in life." It was also narrated by al-Ismāʿīlī and likewise by al-Thaʿlabī in "Tafsīr" (3/158/2) through the route of ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Abī Ḥāzim who said: My father narrated it to me. I said: And its isnād is authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs. As for the corroboration of Ibn ʿAjlān, it was also narrated by Aḥmad (2/320) through the route of Saʿīd ibn Abī Ayyūb who said: Muḥammad ibn ʿAjlān narrated to me from Saʿīd ibn Abī Saʿīd with it. And from this route, it was also narrated by al-Khaṭīb in "Tārīkh" (1/290). And it was also corroborated by al-Layth ibn Saʿd from Saʿīd al-Maqburī with the wording: "When a man from my nation reaches sixty years, Allāh has given him an excuse in life." It was narrated by al-Ḥākim through the route of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ṣāliḥ who said: al-Layth narrated it to us. And he said: "Authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī." And al-Dhahabī agreed with him. And there is a supporting narration from the ḥadīth of Sahl ibn Saʿd, raised [to the Prophet] with the wording: "Whoever from my nation reaches seventy years, Allāh has given him an excuse in life." It was narrated by al-Ḥākim (2/428) through the route of Sulaymān ibn Ḥarb who said: Ḥammād ibn Zayd narrated to us from Abū Ḥāzim from him, and he said: "Authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs." And al-Dhahabī agreed with him, and it is as he said
