I said: This is a sound isnād, all its men are trustworthy according to the criteria of Muslim, except for this al-Naḍr. Abū al-Shaykh mentioned him without any criticism or praise, but Ibn Abī Ḥātim said in "al-Jarḥ wa-al-Taʿdīl" (4/1/481): "al-Naḍr ibn Hishām al-Aṣbahānī narrated from al-Ḥusayn ibn Ḥafṣ, ʿĀmir ibn Ibrāhīm, and Bakr ibn Bakkār. I wrote from him in Iṣfahān and he is truthful." Third: Muʿādh ibn Muʿādh al-ʿAnbarī from Sufyān with it. It was extracted by Abū ʿUthmān al-Najīrmī in "al-Fawāʾid" (2/2/2) through the route of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Hāshim who narrated to us from Muʿādh ibn Muʿādh al-ʿAnbarī with it. And he said: "ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ḥāmid (meaning his teacher) said: I said to ʿAbd Allāh al-Sharqī (meaning the teacher of Ibn Ḥāmid, and the narrator from Ibn Hāshim): How did this ḥadīth occur? He said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Hāshim lost his sight, so he was prompted with this ḥadīth, and he accepted it." I said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Hāshim is al-Ṭūsī al-Nīsābūrī, and he is trustworthy among the men of Muslim and his teachers, and they agreed on his reliability. I have not seen any of the imams accuse him of being prompted or anything else, so it is not acceptable from al-Sharqī to accuse him of it, especially since he himself is criticized, even though al-Samʿānī described him as a muḥaddith of Nīsābūr. Al-Dhahabī mentioned him in "al-Mīzān" and said: "His hearings are sound from the likes of al-Dhuhlī and his peers, but they criticized him for his addiction to drinking intoxicants." Ibn al-ʿImād transmitted in "al-Shadharāt" (2/313) from al-Ḥākim that he said: "I saw him, and he was unparalleled in his time in the knowledge of medicine. He did not abandon drinking until he died, so he was weakened by that." The ḥāfiẓ mentioned in "al-Lisān" a story about him indicating his ignorance of the saying of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) regarding wine: "It is a disease and not a cure," or his feigned ignorance of it. Otherwise, how could he permit a patient to drink aged wine! So Allāh is the one whose help is sought
