- and he was a Companion - he said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said, and he mentioned it at the end of a ḥadīth whose beginning is "Name yourselves with the names of the prophets..." and it is recorded in "al-Irwāʾ" (1178). Thus, the ḥadīth with this witness is established, if Allāh wills, then Ibn Wahb said (p. 8): "Muʿāwiyah ibn Ṣāliḥ informed me from al-Ḥasan ibn Jābir who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: 'Adopt the names Yazīd, for there is no one except that he increases in good and evil, and Ḥārith, for there is no one except that he cultivates for his Hereafter or his worldly life, and Hammām, for there is no one except that he is concerned with his Hereafter or his worldly life, and if you err in these names, then use ʿAbd.'" Al-Ḥasan ibn Jābir, who is al-Lakhmī, is a Successor, but no one narrated from him except this Muʿāwiyah and Muḥammad ibn al-Walīd al-Zubaydī, and no one authenticated him except Ibn Ḥibbān. The ḥadīth was previously mentioned under ḥadīth (904), and I repeated it here to strengthen it with the connected witness and the mursal of al-Lakhmī.

- "You are my uncle and the remainder of my forefathers, and the uncle is a father." He said: It is as I say to you, so when you give birth, bring him to me. When I gave birth, I brought him to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and he named him ʿAbdullāh and blessed him with his saliva, then said: Take him back, for you will find him intelligent. She said: I went to al-ʿAbbās and informed him, so he dressed and came to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and he was a handsome man of tall stature. When the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) saw him, he stood up to him and kissed him between his eyes, then seated him on his right, then said: This is my uncle, so whoever wishes may boast of his uncle. Al-ʿAbbās said: Some words, O Messenger of Allāh, he said: Why should I not say when you are my uncle..." the ḥadīth. I said: And this isnād has weakness, Aḥmad ibn Rushd, Ibn Abī Ḥātim said (1/1/51):
