"Do not intercept those bringing goods to the market, and do not sell over one another, and let none of you propose to a woman already engaged to his brother until the first suitor leaves or gives him permission to propose." This was recorded by Aḥmad (2/153): ʿAbd al-Ṣamad narrated to us, Ṣakhr narrated from Nāfiʿ from Ibn ʿUmar who said: "The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) prohibited a townsman from selling for a desert dweller, and he used to say..." and he mentioned it. I say: This isnād is authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim, and they have both reported it in a similar manner separately. Ṣakhr is Ibn Juwayriyah, the client of Banū Tamīm. ʿAbd al-Ṣamad is Ibn ʿAbd al-Wārith Ibn Saʿīd al-ʿAnbar, his client from al-Baṣrah.

"When a woman goes out to the mosque, let her wash off any perfume as she washes from impurity." This was recorded by al-Nasāʾī (2/283) from Ṣafwān ibn Sulaym from a trustworthy man from Abū Hurayrah who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. I say: Its narrators are trustworthy except for this man, as he was not named, even though he was deemed trustworthy. Such a declaration of trustworthiness is not considered valid until he is named and known, as established in "al-Muṣṭalaḥ." Al-Bayhaqī also recorded in "al-Sunan al-Kubrā" (3/133) through the route of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Ḥārith ibn Abī ʿUbayd—from the elders of Kawthar, the client of Abū Ruhm al-Ghifārī—from his grandfather who said: "I went out with Abū Hurayrah from the mosque in the morning, and we encountered a woman with a fragrance that I had never smelled anything like it before. Abū Hurayrah said to her: Peace be upon you, and she replied: And upon you. He asked: Where are you going? She said: To the mosque. He asked: Why did you apply this perfume? She said: For the mosque. He said: By Allāh? She said: By Allāh. He said: By Allāh? She said: By Allāh. He said: My beloved Abū al-Qāsim informed me: 'A woman's prayer is not accepted if she applies perfume for anyone other than her husband until she washes it off as she washes from impurity.' So go and wash it off, then return."
