- "Every joint of a person has charity due on it every day the sun rises: reconciling between two people is charity, helping a man with his mount by lifting him onto it or lifting his belongings onto it is charity, a good word is charity, every step taken towards prayer is charity, and removing harm from the road is charity." Narrated by al-Bukhārī (3/171/4/15), Muslim (3/83), and Aḥmad (2/312, 316, 374) from the narration of Abū Hurayrah, attributed [to the Prophet]. In another narration by al-Bukhārī (3/224): "Guiding someone on the road is charity" instead of "removing," etc. Al-Suyūṭī mentioned it in "al-Jāmiʿ" with this context, but he included both phrases together, then attributed it to the three mentioned, which is not accurate for two reasons: first, the addition is unique to al-Bukhārī, and second, it is a combination of two of his narrations, which gives the false impression that the narration is with him, or with the three, combining both additions, which is not the case. The ḥadīth has other chains in the Musnad: 1 - From ʿAbd Allāh ibn Lahīʿah: Abū Yūnus Sulaym ibn Jubayr, the client of Abū Hurayrah, narrated to us that he heard Abū Hurayrah saying it, attributed [to the Prophet] with the wording: "Every soul has charity prescribed for it every day..." etc., in a similar manner. Narrated (2/350) from Ḥasan from him. It is a good isnād for corroborations. 2 - Narrated (2/328-329) from al-Mubārak ibn Faḍālah from al-Ḥasan from Abū Hurayrah, attributed [to the Prophet]: "Every joint of the son of Adam has charity due on it when he wakes up." This was difficult for the Muslims, so the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Your greeting of peace to the servants of Allāh is charity, and removing harm from the road is charity."
