I said: This isnād is very weak. Ḥanash is abandoned, as mentioned in "Taqrīb" and elsewhere. (See my commentary on "Mishkāt" (2/609/49). However, the ḥadīth has several supporting witnesses that strengthen it. The first: from al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib, narrated by Layth from ʿAmr ibn Murrah from Muʿāwiyah ibn Suwayd ibn Muqarrin from him, raised [to the Prophet] without mentioning loyalty and enmity. It was recorded by al-Ṭayālisī (2/48/2110), Aḥmad (4/286), and Ibn Abī Shaybah in "al-Muṣannaf" (12/187/2). Its narrators are trustworthy except for Layth, who is Ibn Abī Sulaym, and he is weak. The second: from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd, and there are two paths from him: the first is narrated by al-Ṣaʿq ibn Ḥazn who said: ʿUqayl al-Jaʿd narrated to me from Abū Isḥāq from Suwayd ibn Ghaflah from him. It was recorded by al-Ṭayālisī (378 - his Musnad), Ibn Abī Shaybah (12/189/1), al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (3/81/2) and in "al-Ṣaghīr" (p. 130), and al-Ḥākim (2/480) who said: "Its isnād is authentic." Al-Dhahabī refuted this by saying: "I said: It is not authentic, for although al-Ṣaʿq is reliable, his shaykh is rejected in ḥadīth. Al-Bukhārī said this." The other is from the narration of Hishām ibn ʿAmmār who said: al-Walīd ibn Muslim narrated to us, who said: Bukayr ibn Maʿrūf narrated to me from Muqātil ibn Ḥayyān from al-Qāsim ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān from his father from Ibn Masʿūd with a similar meaning. It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī (3/74/2)
