then it is in them, meaning: if it were to be in anything, it would be in these. Since it is not in these three, it is not in anything."

- "Indeed, the merchants will be resurrected on the Day of Judgment as wicked except those who fear Allāh, are righteous, and speak the truth." It was narrated by al-Tirmidhī (1/228), al-Dārimī (2/247), Ibn Mājah (2/5), Ibn Ḥibbān (1095), and al-Ḥākim (2/6) through the route of ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUthmān ibn Khuthaym from Ismāʿīl ibn ʿUbayd ibn Rifāʿah from his father from his grandfather: "that he went out with the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) to the prayer place, and he saw people trading, so he said: O assembly of merchants! They responded to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and raised their necks and eyes towards him, and he said" and then mentioned it. Al-Tirmidhī said: "A ḥadīth that is ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ." Al-Ḥākim said: "Its isnād is ṣaḥīḥ," and al-Dhahabī agreed with him, although he said in the biography of this Ismāʿīl: "I know of no one who narrated from him except ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUthmān ibn Khuthaym, but al-Tirmidhī authenticated this." And in "al-Taqrīb": he is considered acceptable. And the ḥadīth has a supporting narration that elevates it to the level of ḥasan, if Allāh wills, and its wording is: "Indeed, the merchants are the wicked. They said: O Messenger of Allāh: Has not Allāh permitted trade? He said: Yes, but they swear and sin, and they speak and lie."
