It was recorded by Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (8/377) from Wakīʿ and by al-Ḥākim (4/308) through the route of ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Walīd al-ʿAdanī, both from Sufyān, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAqīl, from al-Ṭufayl ibn Abī ibn Kaʿb, from his father, who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said it. And he mentioned it. Abū Nuʿaym said: "It is strange, Wakīʿ is unique in narrating it from al-Thawrī with this wording." I said: No, for al-ʿAdanī followed him as you have seen, and Qabīṣah also followed him from Sufyān with it, without the mention of the night journey and the merchandise. Likewise, Aḥmad recorded it (5/136) from Wakīʿ, and Qabīṣah added at the beginning: "The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) would stand when two-thirds of the night had passed and say: O people! Remember Allāh, the convulsion has come...." Al-Tirmidhī said: "It is a good and authentic ḥadīth." I said: Its isnād is good due to the well-known disagreement regarding Ibn ʿAqīl. Through the route of Qabīṣah, it was also recorded by Abū Nuʿaym (1/256) and al-Ḥākim (2/421, 513), who said: "Its isnād is authentic!" and al-Dhahabī agreed with him! However, it is only good for the reasons we mentioned. Muḥammad ibn Yūsuf also followed him, narrating from Sufyān with a narration similar to that of Qabīṣah. It was recorded by Ibn Naṣr in "Qiyām al-Layl" (p. 36). The ḥadīth has a corroborating narration from Abū Hurayrah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) in a marfūʿ form, without the phrase: "The convulsion has come...." Al-Tirmidhī recorded it and deemed it good, but it contains weakness, which I clarified in the commentary on "al-Mishkāt" (5348).
