the narration of Ismāʿīl from al-Ḥasan alone. And this Ismāʿīl is al-Makkī, who is weak. It has a supporting narration with the wording: "Whoever makes this world his concern, Allāh will scatter his affairs and place poverty between his eyes, and he will receive nothing from this world except what has been decreed for him. And whoever makes the Hereafter his intention, Allāh will gather his affairs for him, place richness in his heart, and the world will come to him, humbled."

It was recorded by Ibn Mājah (2/524-525) and Ibn Ḥibbān (72) through the route of Shuʿbah from ʿAmr ibn Sulaymān who said: I heard ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abān ibn ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān from his father from Zayd ibn Thābit as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. I said: And this isnād is authentic; its men are trustworthy, as stated in "al-Zawāʾid."

"The thing I fear most for you is minor shirk." They said: "What is minor shirk?" He said: "Showing off. Allāh will say to those with this on the Day of Judgment, when He rewards people: 'Go to those for whom you showed off in the world, and see if you find any reward with them!'" It was narrated by Aḥmad (5/428 and 429), Abū Muḥammad al-Ḍarrāb in "Dhamm al-Riyāʾ" (277/2/299/2), and al-Baghawī in "Sharḥ al-Sunnah" (4/201/1) from ʿAmr ibn Abī ʿAmr and from ʿĀṣim ibn ʿUmar ibn Qatādah from Maḥmūd ibn Labīd who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said. And this isnād is good; all its men are trustworthy, the men of the two Shaykhs except for Maḥmūd ibn Labīd, for he is only from the men of Muslim. The ḥāfiẓ said: "He is a young Companion, and most of his narrations are from the Companions."
