- "What is little and sufficient is better than what is abundant and distracting." Narrated by Ibn ʿAdī (7/2) from Ismāʿīl ibn Sulaymān al-Azraq from Anas as marfūʿ. He said: "This Ismāʿīl, Yaḥyá said: he is nothing. Al-Nasāʾī said: abandoned in ḥadīth." Al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "Weak." It has a corroborating narration from the ḥadīth of Thawbān. Narrated by al-Qaḍāʿī (102/2) through the route of Yazīd ibn Rabīʿah who said: I heard Abū al-Ashʿath say: I heard Thawbān say: and he mentioned it. And Yazīd ibn Rabīʿah is al-Raḥbī al-Dimashqī and he is weak. But it has a second corroborating narration from the ḥadīth of Abū al-Dardāʾ as marfūʿ in the end of his ḥadīth. Its isnād is authentic, and I have documented it in "al-Mishkāt" (5218). It has a third corroborating narration from Abū Saʿīd. Narrated by Abū Yaʿlá in "Musnad" (1/295): Muḥammad ibn ʿAbbād narrated to us, Abū Saʿīd informed us from Ṣadaqah ibn al-Rabīʿ from ʿUmārah ibn Ghaziyyah from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Saʿīd—I think from his father, Abū ʿAbd Allāh doubted—he said: I heard the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) while he was on the pulpit saying: and he mentioned it. I said: This isnād's men are trustworthy, men of "al-Ṣaḥīḥ" except for Ṣadaqah ibn al-Rabīʿ, Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned him (2/1/433) with this narration and did not mention any criticism or commendation. As for al-Haythamī, he asserted in "al-Majmaʿ" (10/256) that he is trustworthy. Perhaps his basis for that is having seen him in "al-Thiqāt" by Ibn Ḥibbān, as has occurred in many biographies. And Abū Saʿīd is the client of Banū Hāshim, and his name is ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Baṣrī.
