- "Ṭalḥah made it obligatory." It was narrated by al-Tirmidhī (1/316) and in "al-Shamāʾil" (p. 85), Ibn Ḥibbān (2212), al-Ḥākim (3/374), Aḥmad (1/165), and Ibn Hishām in "al-Sīrah" (3/91-92) through the route of Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq from Yaḥyá ibn ʿAbbād ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Zubayr from his father from his grandfather ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Zubayr from al-Zubayr ibn al-ʿAwwām who said: "The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) had two coats of armor on the day of Uḥud. He attempted to climb a rock but could not, so Ṭalḥah sat beneath him, and the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) ascended upon him until he stood on the rock. He said: I heard the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say." So he mentioned it. Al-Ḥākim said: "Authentic according to the conditions of Muslim!" and al-Dhahabī agreed with him! Al-Tirmidhī said: "A good and unique ḥadīth, we do not know it except from the narration of Ibn Isḥāq." I said: And he explicitly stated hearing it in the narrations of Aḥmad, Ibn Hishām, and Ibn Ḥibbān, thus we are assured of his non-concealment, so the ḥadīth is good as al-Mundhirī said, and it is not according to the conditions of Muslim because he only included Ibn Isḥāq as a follow-up. However, it has a supporting narration from ʿĀʾishah, the Mother of the Believers, raised as such. It was produced by al-Ḥākim (3/376) who said: "Authentic according to the conditions of Muslim." But al-Dhahabī rejected it by saying: "I said: No, by Allāh, and Isḥāq (ibn Yaḥyá ibn Ṭalḥah) was declared abandoned by Aḥmad."
