I said: This is a sound isnād, all its narrators are trustworthy and well-known. Abū Rajāʾ's name is Muḥriz ibn ʿAbdullāh al-Jazarī. Abū Dāwūd said: He is trustworthy. Similarly, Abū Ḥātim declared him trustworthy, and Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt" and said: "He used to practice tadlīs from Makhūl, but his ḥadīth is considered when he clarifies hearing from Makhūl and others." I said: This ḥadīth was narrated from Makhūl through the intermediary of Burd ibn Sinān, thus eliminating the suspicion of his tadlīs from him. However, al-Dhahabī said in "al-Kuná" from "al-Mīzān" the following: "Abū Rajāʾ al-Jazarī narrated from Furāt ibn al-Sāʾib, and from him ʿAbdah ibn Sulaymān and Ismāʿīl ibn Zakariyyā. It is said his name is Muḥriz. Ibn Ḥibbān said he narrated many strange things from Furāt and the people of al-Jazīrah that are not followed up on, and his report is not to be used as evidence when he is alone. Among them is from Furāt from Maymūn from Ibn ʿUmar, marfūʿ: 'The people of the house did not endure hardship for three days except that Allāh provided them with sustenance.'" It appears that Ibn Ḥibbān contradicted himself regarding this man, as he included him once in "al-Thiqāt" and another time in his book "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ." Perhaps the origin of those strange narrations is from those he practiced tadlīs from, and not from himself, as he is trustworthy as previously mentioned, and Allāh knows best. The ḥadīth was also recorded by Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (10/365) and "Akhbār Aṣbahān" (2/302) and by al-Bayhaqī in "al-Zuhd" (Q 99/2) through another route from Abū Rajāʾ with the addition: "And laugh less, for excessive laughter kills the heart." This addition has a third route from Abū Hurayrah, previously mentioned under number (506). It has a corroborating narration reported by Ibrāhīm ibn Hishām ibn Yaḥyá ibn Yaḥyá al-Ghasānī, who said: My father told me from my grandfather from Abū Idrīs al-Khawlānī from Abū Dharr who said: "I entered the mosque, and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was sitting alone, so I sat with him and he said:
