"the quickest act of obedience to receive reward is maintaining family ties...." It was narrated through Abū Yaʿlá: Muslim ibn Abī Muslim al-Jurmi narrated to us, Mukhallad ibn al-Ḥusayn narrated to us from Hishām from al-Ḥasan from Abū Bakrah in a marfūʿ form. I say: Its narrators are all trustworthy except for al-Jurmi, whom I do not know at present. When al-Mundhirī attributed it in "al-Targhīb" (3/228) to Ibn Ḥibbān in his "Ṣaḥīḥ," he remained silent about it, so perhaps he knew him. The first part of it has a supporting narration from Abū Hurayrah, which will appear in this volume, Allāh willing, under number (978).

"Obey your father and divorce her." It was narrated by Abū Dāwūd (5138), al-Tirmidhī (1/223), Ibn Mājah (2088), Ibn Ḥibbān (2024/2025), al-Ṭaḥāwī in "al-Mushkil" (2/159), al-Ḥākim (2/197), and Aḥmad (2/42, 53, 157) through the route of Ibn Abī Dhīb. He said: My uncle al-Ḥārith ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to me from Ḥamzah ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar from his father (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) who said: "I had a wife whom I loved, but ʿUmar disliked her. ʿUmar said: Divorce her, but I refused. This was mentioned to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and he said" — and he mentioned it. The context is from al-Ḥākim, who said: "Authentic according to the conditions of the two Shaykhs." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. Al-Tirmidhī said: "Good and authentic." I say: Rather, it is only good, as al-Ḥārith was not narrated by the two Shaykhs, nor did anyone other than Ibn Abī Dhīb narrate from him. Aḥmad and al-Nasāʾī said: "There is nothing wrong with him."
