(his statement) "fayabhish." It means to hasten. In "al-Nihāyah": "It is said of a person when he looks at something, is impressed by it, desires it, and hastens towards it: 'he has hastened towards it.'"

- "When food was brought near to him, he would say: In the name of Allāh, and when he finished, he would say: O Allāh, You have fed, given drink, enriched, guided, and given life, so all praise is due to Allāh for what You have given." It was narrated by Aḥmad (4/62, 5/375) and Abū al-Shaykh in "Akhlaq al-Nabī ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam" (p. 238) from Bakr ibn ʿAmr from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Hubayrah al-Sabāʾī from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Jubayr that a man who served the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) for eight years told him that he used to hear the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) when food was brought near. The ḥadīth. I said: This isnād is authentic; all its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of Muslim. (aqnayta) means You have given wealth and other things. And in this ḥadīth, the naming at the beginning of the meal is with the phrase "In the name of Allāh" without any addition. All the authentic ḥadīths that have been reported in this chapter, like this ḥadīth, do not have any addition, and I do not know of it being reported in any ḥadīth. It is considered a bidʿah by the jurists in the sense of innovation, while the imitators' response is well-known: "What's wrong with it?!" We say: It contains everything, which is an objection to the wise Lawgiver who left nothing that brings us closer to Allāh except that He commanded it and legislated it for us. If it were legislated and there was nothing wrong with it, he would have done it at least once. And is this addition anything but like the addition of sending prayers upon the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) from the sneezer after..
