All praise is due to Allāh. ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) rejected it, as mentioned in "al-Mustadrak" by al-Ḥākim. Al-Suyūṭī, in "al-Ḥāwī lil-Fatāwī" (1/338), decisively stated that it is a blameworthy innovation. Can the followers answer the reason that led al-Suyūṭī to assert this with certainty? Some of the ignorant among them may hastily accuse him, as is their habit, of being a Wahhābī! Even though he died about three hundred years before the death of Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb! This reminds me of an amusing story from some schools in Damascus. One of the well-known Christian teachers was speaking about the movement of Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb in the Arabian Peninsula and its fight against shirk, innovations, and superstitions. It seems he praised it, so one of his students said: "It appears that the teacher is a Wahhābī!" Others may hasten to declare al-Suyūṭī wrong, but where is the evidence? The evidence is with him, and it is his saying (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam): "Whoever introduces into this matter of ours something that is not from it, it is rejected." Agreed upon. There are other examples on this topic, which we will compile in our book dedicated to innovation. We ask Allāh, the Exalted, to facilitate its completion by His grace and favor.
