or praise, but they mentioned him among "the Companions" and Ibn Ḥajar mentioned him in the "first section" of "al-Iṣābah," and he narrated this ḥadīth from the narration of Abū Aḥmad al-Ḥākim through al-Ḥajjāj. His brother ʿAbd al-Raḥmān also followed him in a similar manner. Abū Isḥāq narrated from Khaythamah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn (Abī) Sabrā: "that his father ʿAbd al-Raḥmān went with his grandfather to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and he said to him: What is your son's name? He said: ʿAzīz. The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: Do not name him ʿAzīz, but name him ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, then he said: " and he mentioned it. It was recorded by Aḥmad (4/178) and Ibn Ḥibbān (1945) in an abridged form, as well as al-Ḥākim (4/276) who said: "Its isnād is authentic." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I say: But its apparent form is mursal, and Aḥmad connected it in his narration from this route from Khaythamah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān from his father in a similar manner. I say: Thus, it is connected, and it was also narrated by al-Ṭabarānī. Al-Haythamī said (8/50): "Its narrators are the narrators of the authentic [collections]." There is a strong mursal corroborating ḥadīth with the wording: "The best names are ʿAbd Allāh and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, and similar to this, and the most truthful names are al-Ḥārith and Hammām, al-Ḥārith for his worldly and religious life, and Hammām for both, and the worst names are Ḥarb and Murrah." It was narrated by Ibn Wahb in "al-Jāmiʿ" (p. 7): Ibn Lahīʿah informed me from Jaʿfar ibn Rabīʿah from Rabīʿah ibn Yazīd from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿĀmir al-Yaḥṣubī as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. I say: And this isnād is a correct mursal, all its narrators are trustworthy, and al-Yaḥṣubī's kunyah is Abū ʿImrān al-Dimashqī al-Muqriʾ
