- "He used to carry Zamzam water in small vessels and leather bags and would pour it over the sick and give it to them to drink." Narrated by al-Tirmidhī (1/180) and likewise by al-Bukhārī in "al-Tārīkh al-Kabīr" (2/1-173) and al-Bayhaqī (5/202) through the route of Khallād ibn Yazīd al-Ḥanafī from Zuhayr ibn Muʿāwiyah from him Shām ibn ʿUrwah from his father from ʿĀʾishah: "that she used to carry Zamzam water and inform that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) used to..." the ḥadīth. The addition is by al-Bukhārī who said: "It is not corroborated." Meaning this al-Ḥanafī, who is trustworthy as Ibn Ḥibbān said, for a group narrated from him and he said: "He might err" and al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "Truthful, but might make mistakes." Therefore, al-Tirmidhī said after it: "A good ḥadīth, we do not know it except from this route." And it has a corroborating narration through the route of Abū al-Zubayr who said: "We were with Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh, and we talked, then the time for ʿAṣr prayer came, so he stood and led us in prayer in a single garment wrapped around him, with his cloak placed aside, then he was brought Zamzam water, and he drank, then drank again, and they said: What is this? He said: This is Zamzam water, about which the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: 'Zamzam water is for whatever it is drunk for.'" He said: Then the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) while in Medina before Mecca was conquered sent to Suhayl ibn ʿAmr: Send us a gift of Zamzam water, and do not leave it. He said: So he sent him two large water skins."
