"I was brought the Buraq, which is a long white animal that places its hoof at the extent of its glance. We did not dismount from it, Gabriel and I, until I reached the House of the Holy. The gates of the heavens were opened for us, and I saw Paradise and Hell." This was recorded by Aḥmad (5/392 and 394) through the route of Ḥammād ibn Salamah from ʿĀṣim ibn Bahdalah from Zur ibn Ḥubaysh from Ḥudhayfah ibn al-Yamān that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. Ḥudhayfah ibn al-Yamān said: "And he did not pray in the House of the Holy." Zur said: "I told him: Yes, he did pray." Ḥudhayfah said: "What is your name, O bald one, for I recognize your face but do not know your name!" I said: "I am Zur ibn Ḥubaysh." He said: "And how do you know that he prayed?" I said: "Allāh says: *'Glory be to Him who took His servant by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Farthest Mosque, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.'* (Sūrah al-Isrāʾ, verse 1)" He said: "Do you find that he prayed? If he had prayed, you would have prayed there as you pray in the Sacred Mosque." Zur said: "And he tied the animal to the ring to which the prophets (peace be upon them) tie [their animals]." Ḥudhayfah said: "Did he fear it would run away when Allāh had brought it to him?!" It was also recorded by al-Tirmidhī (4/139) and al-Ḥākim (2/359) through other routes from ʿĀṣim with a similar narration. Al-Tirmidhī said: "A good and authentic ḥadīth." Al-Ḥākim said: "Authentic isnād," and al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I say: It is only good due to the well-known disagreement regarding ʿĀṣim ibn Bahdalah.
