I said: This isnād has trustworthy men except for Shaybah ibn al-Aḥnaf. Duhaym said: "Al-Walīd narrated from him, but I have not heard anyone recognize him," and Abū Zurʿah al-Dimashqī mentioned him among a group of elders and scholars. As for Ibn Ḥibbān, he mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt." Al-Būṣīrī said in "al-Zawāʾid" (p. 34/2): "This isnād is ḥasan; I am not aware of any weakness in its men." I said: It is as he said, except that al-Walīd ibn Muslim used to practice tadlīs al-taswiyah and did not explicitly state hearing from his shaykh and those above him. Yes, the ḥadīth is ṣaḥīḥ through other means, as it has been authentically reported with the wording: "Perform ablution thoroughly, woe to the heels from the Fire." It was recorded by Aḥmad (2/164, 193, 201), Muslim, and Abū ʿAwānah in their "Ṣaḥīḥ" collections and others through various chains from Manṣūr from Hilāl ibn Yasāf from Abū Yaḥyá from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr who said: "The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) saw some people performing ablution incompletely, and he said:" and he mentioned it. The context is from Aḥmad. I have also included it in "Ṣaḥīḥ Abī Dāwūd" (87).

"It is prohibited to approach women from behind." It was recorded by al-Nasāʾī in "al-ʿIshrah" from "al-Sunan al-Kubrā" (1/77/2) from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shaddād al-Aʿraj from a man from Khuzaymah ibn Thābit from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) with it. I said: Its men are trustworthy except for this unnamed man, but the ḥadīth is ṣaḥīḥ, as it has come through other routes from Khuzaymah and others with similar wording, and I have mentioned some of them in "Ādāb al-Zafāf" (pp. 29-30, Islamic Office edition).
