and the ḥadīth is supported by what follows it.

- "Everything is by decree, even incapacity and intelligence, or incapacity and intelligence." It was recorded by Mālik (3/93) and from him by Muslim in "Ṣaḥīḥ" (8/51) and al-Bukhārī in "Afʿāl al-ʿIbād" (p. 73) and Aḥmad in "al-Musnad" (2/110) and also in "al-Sunnah" (p. 121), all of them from Mālik from Ziyād ibn Saʿd from ʿAmr ibn Muslim from Ṭāwūs al-Yamānī who said: I met people from the Companions of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) who said: Everything is by decree. Ṭāwūs said: And I heard ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar say: and he mentioned it as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. It has a corroborating narration with the wording: "Everything is by divine decree, even this," and he struck his index finger on the vein of his other arm. It is from the ḥadīth of Anas ibn Mālik (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) who said: They disputed in front of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) about divine decree, and he disliked it intensely as if pomegranate seeds had been thrown in his face. He said: "What are you disputing about?" They said: "We are disputing about divine decree, O Messenger of Allāh." He said: and he mentioned it. Al-Haythamī said (7/208): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in al-Awsaṭ, and among a group I did not recognize." (Note) The author of "al-Tāj al-Jāmiʿ li-l-Uṣūl al-Khamsah" included the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿUmar mentioned with the wording: "Everything is by divine decree..." and said (1/29): "It was narrated by the two Shaykhs and Mālik."
