I said: al-Kharāʾiṭī also narrated it (p. 74) through the route of Sayyār ibn Ḥātim, who reported from Jaʿfar ibn Sulaymān al-Ḍubʿī, from Abū ʿImrān al-Jawnī, who said: A man said, "O Messenger of Allāh, I complain to you about the hardness of my heart." He said, "Bring the orphan close to you," [the ḥadīth] without his saying "and be kind to him." Its isnād is mursal and ḥasan; its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of Muslim, except for Sayyār ibn Ḥātim, about whom al-Ḥāfiẓ said: "Truthful but has errors."

"May Allāh have mercy on a servant who speaks and gains benefit, or remains silent and stays safe." It was narrated by al-Baghawī in "Ḥadīth of Kāmil ibn Ṭalḥah" (3/2) and al-Qaḍāʿī in "Musnad al-Shihāb" (47/2) through two routes from al-Ḥasan, raised [to the Prophet] and mursal. It was also narrated by Ibn al-Mubārak in "al-Zuhd" (380): Ibn Lahīʿah informed us, saying: Khālid ibn Abī ʿImrān told me. "that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) held his tongue for a long time, then released it, and then said, 'I fear this for you. May Allāh have mercy on a servant who speaks good and gains benefit, or remains silent from evil and stays safe.'" Its narrators are trustworthy, but it is mursal, rather muʿḍal, for Khālid only narrates from ʿUrwah and his contemporaries; he died in the year 139. It has been narrated in a connected form; al-Suyūṭī mentioned it in "al-Jāmiʿ" from the narration of Abū Umāmah, raised [to the Prophet], and al-Ḥāfiẓ al-ʿIrāqī said in "Takhrīj al-Iḥyāʾ" (3/95): "Ibn Abī al-Dunyā narrated it in 'al-Ṣamt' and al-Bayhaqī in 'al-Shuʿab' from the ḥadīth of Anas with a weak isnād, as it is from the narration of Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh from the people of the Ḥijāz."
