"and in its isnād is someone unnamed and the rest are known to practice tadlīs." A similar statement is found in "al-Targhīb" (3/231). I said: Abū Nuʿaym has also narrated it in "al-Ḥilyah" (1/214) through the route of Maʿmar from a companion of his that Abū al-Dardāʾ... then he mentioned the ḥadīth. This is free from the rest, but with the anonymity of Maʿmar's companion, I do not think this companion met Abū al-Dardāʾ, and Allāh knows best. Al-Kharāʾiṭī also narrated it in "Makārim al-Akhlāq" (p. 75): Abū al-Ḥārith Muḥammad ibn Muṣʿab al-Dimashqī narrated to us, Hishām ibn ʿAmmār narrated to us, Ṣadaqah ibn Khālid narrated to us, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yazīd ibn Jābir narrated to us from Muḥammad ibn Wāsiʿ al-Azdī that Abū al-Dardāʾ wrote to Salmān: O my brother, bring the orphan close, wipe over his head, and feed him from your food, for I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: A man came to him complaining of the hardness of his heart, and he said: Bring the orphan close, wipe over his head, and feed him from your food, your heart will soften, and you will be able to fulfill your needs. And this isnād's narrators are trustworthy except for Abū al-Ḥārith. Ibn ʿAsākir mentioned him in "Tārīkh Dimashq" (15/521/2/522/2) and cited some ḥadīths from him without mentioning any criticism or endorsement. And Muḥammad ibn Wāsiʿ, Ibn al-Madīnī said: I do not know of him hearing from any of the Companions. Al-Kharāʾiṭī's ḥadīth was also cited by al-Suyūṭī in "al-Jāmiʿ al-Kabīr" (1/30/1) with the addition "and be kind to him" and he said: "It was narrated by al-Ḍiyāʾ, al-Bayhaqī, al-Kharāʾiṭī, and Ibn ʿAsākir from Abū al-Dardāʾ."
