It was recorded by Aḥmad in "al-Musnad" (4/106): Abū al-Mughīrah narrated to us, saying: I heard al-Awzāʿī say: Rabīʿah ibn Yazīd narrated to me, saying: I heard Wāthilah ibn al-Asqaʿ say: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) came out to us and said... and he mentioned it. I said: This isnād is authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim, connected through hearing. It has a corroborating report from the ḥadīth of Salamah ibn Nufayl al-Sakūnī, elevated with a similar wording. It was recorded by al-Dārimī (1/29) and Aḥmad (4/104) through the route of Arṭāh ibn al-Mundhir, who narrated to us: Ḍamrah ibn Ḥabīb narrated to us, saying: Salamah ibn Nufayl narrated it. I said: This isnād is also authentic and connected. (afnādā) means groups scattered, one group after another, and an individual of them is (fand).

"do you hear what I hear?" They said: "We do not hear anything." He said: "I hear the creaking of the sky, and it has every right to creak, for there is no space of a handspan in it except that there is an angel prostrating or standing." It was recorded by al-Ṭaḥāwī in "Mushkil al-Āthār" (2/43) and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (1/153/1) through the route of ʿAbd al-Wahhāb ibn ʿAṭāʾ, who narrated to us: Saʿīd ibn Abī ʿArūbah from Qatādah from Ṣafwān ibn Muḥriz from Ḥakīm ibn Ḥizām said: "While the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was among his companions, he said to them..." and he mentioned it. I said: This isnād is authentic according to the criteria of Muslim, and there is some discussion regarding Ibn ʿAṭāʾ that does not harm.
