"Gabriel came to me and said: O Muḥammad, indeed Allāh has cursed wine, its presser, the one for whom it is pressed, its drinker, its carrier, the one to whom it is carried, its seller, its buyer, its server, and the one for whom it is served." It was recorded by Aḥmad (1/316) and al-Ḥākim (4/145), and from him by al-Bayhaqī in "Shuʿab al-Īmān" (2/150) from Mālik ibn Khayr al-Ziyādī, who reported that Mālik ibn Saʿd al-Tujībī narrated to him that he heard Ibn ʿAbbās say: I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say it, and he mentioned it. He said: "Its isnād is authentic." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I say: It is as they said, for this al-Tujībī was mentioned by Ibn Abī Ḥātim, who said (4/1/109) on the authority of Abū Zurʿah: "An Egyptian, there is no harm in him." Al-Ziyādī was also mentioned by Ibn Abī Ḥātim (4/1/208), and he did not mention any criticism or endorsement, but a group of trustworthy narrators reported from him. Ibn Ḥibbān declared him trustworthy, and therefore al-Dhahabī said in "al-Mīzān": "His place is truthfulness. Ibn al-Qaṭṭān said: He is among those whose integrity has not been established." He means that no one explicitly stated he is trustworthy, and among the narrators of the "Ṣaḥīḥayn" there are many about whom we do not know that anyone explicitly declared them trustworthy, and the majority opinion is that if a shaykh has been narrated from by a group and has not brought anything objectionable, then his ḥadīth is authentic." The rest of the men in the isnād are trustworthy, the men of the two Shaykhs. Al-Haythamī said in "al-Majmaʿ" (5/73): "It was narrated by Aḥmad and al-Ṭabarānī, and its men are trustworthy."
