that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) went out to relieve himself and found no one to accompany him. So ʿUmar went out and followed him with a piece of pottery or a water vessel. He found him prostrating in a path, so he withdrew and sat behind him until the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) raised his head and said: "You did well, O ʿUmar! When you found me prostrating, you withdrew from me. Indeed, Gabriel came to me and said: Whoever sends blessings upon you once, Allāh will send blessings upon him ten times and raise him ten degrees." It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Adab al-Mufrad" (642). Salamah ibn Wardān is weak without accusation, so he is suitable for supporting evidence. There is another supporting ḥadīth from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf, which I have referenced in "al-Irwāʾ" (467). The ḥadīth is mentioned in "al-Fatḥ al-Kabīr" with the wording: "Gabriel came to me and said: O Muḥammad, does it not please you..." I have not seen it like this with anyone else, and it is in "al-Jāmiʿ al-Kabīr" (1/11/1) with the wording "The angel came to me and said..." etc. Yes, the wording of al-Nasāʾī is: "Gabriel came to me..."

- "Gabriel came to me and said: O Muḥammad, instruct your companions to raise their voices with the talbiyah, for it is one of the rites of ḥajj." It was recorded by Ibn Mājah (2/216-217), Ibn Ḥibbān (974), al-Ḥākim (1/450), and Aḥmad (5/192) through the chain of Sufyān from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Labīd from al-Muṭṭalib ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ḥanṭab from Khallād ibn al-Sāʾib from Zayd ibn Khālid al-Juhanī from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), who said: and he mentioned it. The wording is that of Ibn Ḥibbān, and the others said: "Gabriel came to me..." and the rest is the same. Al-Ḥākim said: "Its isnād is authentic."
