"it was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Awsaṭ" and its narrators are trustworthy, except that ʿAbd al-Malik has not been found to have heard from Abū Hurayrah. Ibn Ḥibbān said: He narrated from Yazīd ibn al-Aṣamm." It has another supporting narration with the same meaning, narrated by ʿAmr ibn Abī Sufyān that ʿAmr ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ṣafwān informed him that Kulayda ibn Ḥanbal informed him: that Ṣafwān ibn Umayyah sent him with milk, colostrum, and cucumbers to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) while the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was at the upper part of the valley. He said: I entered upon him without greeting or seeking permission, so the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Go back, and say: Peace be upon you, may I enter?"

- "Go back, and say: Peace be upon you, may I enter?" This was after Ṣafwān had embraced Islam. ʿAmr said: Umayyah ibn Ṣafwān informed me of this ḥadīth and he did not say he heard it from Kulayda. It was recorded by Aḥmad (3/414), Abū Dāwūd (5176), and al-Tirmidhī (2/118-119) who said: "A good and rare ḥadīth." I say: Its isnād is authentic. Abū Dāwūd also recorded (5177) through the route of Rubayʿī who said: A man from Banī ʿĀmir narrated to us. that he sought permission to enter upon the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) while he was in a house, and said: May I enter? So the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Go out to this man and teach him how to seek permission, and say to him: Say: Peace be upon you, may I enter?"

- "Go out to this man and teach him how to seek permission, and say to him: Say: Peace be upon you, may I enter?" So the man heard it and said: Peace be upon you, may I enter? The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) then permitted him to enter, and he entered." I say: The isnād is also authentic, and the anonymity of the Companion does not harm, as it is possible that he is Ṣafwān ibn Umayyah mentioned in the previous ḥadīth
