I said: Ibn Abī Ḥātim narrated it in this manner (1/332) and said: "Abū Zurʿah said: This ḥadīth has no basis." It was also narrated by al-Salafī in "al-Ṭuyūriyyāt" (p. 252/1) through the route of al-Wāqidī, who reported from Hārūn al-Sarakhsī, from ʿUbayd Allāh, from Nāfiʿ with it. Al-Wāqidī is accused, and his name is Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar ibn Wāqid al-Aslamī.

- "Do not permit entry to one who does not begin with salām." Narrated by Abū Nuʿaym in "Akhbār Aṣbahān" (1/357): ʿUmar ibn ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Ibrāhīm al-Warrāq — the imam of the mosque — narrated to us, ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz narrated to us, Surayj ibn Yūnus narrated to us, ʿAlī ibn Hāshim narrated to us from Ibrāhīm, from Abū al-Zubayr, from Jābir, as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. He mentioned it in the biography of this ʿUmar and said: "He died in the year 368," and he did not mention any criticism or commendation about him, and the rest of its narrators are all trustworthy, except that Abū al-Zubayr is a mudallis and he narrated it with ʿanʿanah. Ibrāhīm is Ibn Ṭahmān, a trustworthy narrator from the two Shaykhs [al-Bukhārī and Muslim]. ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz is Abū al-Qāsim al-Baghawī, the truthful ḥāfiẓ. And al-Haythamī said about the ḥadīth (8/32): "It was narrated by Abū Yaʿlá, and in it is someone I do not know!" There is a supporting narration for the ḥadīth, narrated by ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿAṭāʾ from Abū Hurayrah — I am uncertain if it is marfūʿ — who said: "Permission is not granted to the one seeking entry until he begins with salām."
