I said: This is a good isnād, its narrators are trustworthy. Al-Manāwī said: "Al-Ḥāfiẓ al-ʿIrāqī said: Its isnād is good, and others said: it includes Baqiyyah, who is truthful but has unusual and strange narrations." I said: There is no contradiction between the two statements, for Baqiyyah is only feared for his tadlīs, and here he has explicitly stated the transmission as you have seen, and it is in the narration of Aḥmad.

- "The best of the Tābiʿīn is a man from Qarn called Uways." Narrated by Muslim (7/189), Ibn Saʿd (6/113), and al-ʿUqaylī in "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ" (50) and al-Ḥākim (3-404) from Saʿīd al-Jurayrī from Abū Naḍrah from Usayr ibn Jābir: that ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb said to Uways al-Qaranī: Seek forgiveness for me. He said: You are more deserving to seek forgiveness for me, for you are among the Companions of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). He said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: and he mentioned it. From this perspective, it was narrated by Ibn ʿAsākir (3-98-2). Then he narrated from Ibn Ṣāʿid that he said: "The isnāds of the ḥadīths of Uways are authentic, narrated by trustworthy narrators, and this ḥadīth is among them. The people of Baṣrah call him Yasīr ibn Jābir, and the people of Kūfah call him Yasīr ibn ʿAmr, and he has companionship." There is a corroborating narration from ʿAlī, narrated by Yazīd ibn Abī Ziyād from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Laylá who said: "On the day of Ṣiffīn, a caller from the companions of Muʿāwiyah and the companions of ʿAlī called out: Is Uways al-Qaranī among you? They said: Yes, so he spurred his mount until he joined them, then said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: The best of the Tābiʿīn is Uways al-Qaranī." Narrated by al-Ḥākim (3-402) from Sharīk from Yazīd ibn Abī Ziyād. I said: This isnād is weak due to Sharīk and Yazīd, for they are weak in terms of their memory, but his ḥadīth is good as supporting evidence.
