and their names are Muḥammad ibn Khāzim and Abū Saʿīd al-Ashajj, whose name is ʿAbd Allāh ibn Saʿīd, for both are trustworthy according to the two Shaykhs [al-Bukhārī and Muslim], and there is no criticism against them. However, as previously mentioned, they were contradicted by Jarīr, who is Ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd, and Ibn Numayr, whose name is ʿAbd Allāh, and Yaʿlá, who is Ibn ʿUbayd al-Ṭanafīsī, and all three are trustworthy and relied upon by the two Shaykhs as well. Thus, consideration wavers between preferring their narration over the narration of the two trustworthy narrators because they are more numerous, and preferring the narration of the two over theirs because they include an addition, and the addition of a trustworthy narrator is accepted. It would have been appropriate for the examiner to stop here without any hesitation were it not for three matters: the first is that the ḥadīth was narrated by Aḥmad (2/444): "Wakīʿ informed us from al-Aʿmash" without the addition. Thus, the Imām contradicted Abū Saʿīd al-Ashajj, who is more reliable than him. The second is that the ḥadīth was recorded by Muslim and al-Bukhārī in "al-Adab al-Mufrad" (209 and 210) and by Aḥmad (2/423, 444, 463, 484, 491, and 508) and others through other routes from Abū Hurayrah without the addition, and some of their wordings will be mentioned. The third is that Hammām ibn Munabbih said: Abū Hurayrah narrated to us from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) who said: "None of you should say: 'Give drink to your lord, feed your lord, wash your lord,' and none of you should say: 'My lord,' but rather say: 'My master, my patron,' and none of you should say: 'My slave, my slave girl,' but rather say: 'My boy, my girl, my servant.'" It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (3/124), Muslim, and Aḥmad (2/316). This narration added "my patron," and Aḥmad's wording is: "and my patron," and this addition contradicts the first addition in a way that cannot be reconciled except by preferring one over the other, as previously mentioned by al-Qurṭubī, and this is more preferable due to the absence of opposition. The fourth is that it is established in the ḥadīth: "The master is Allāh," and it is not established in the elevated ḥadīth that..
