ibn Faḍālah, who narrated to me from ʿAbd Rabbih ibn Saʿīd, from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir, from Jābir, as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. Al-Tirmidhī said: "In this chapter, there is also a narration from Abū Hurayrah. This ḥadīth is ḥasan gharīb from this perspective. Some have narrated this ḥadīth from Mubārak ibn Faḍālah, from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir, from Jābir, without mentioning ʿAbd Rabbih ibn Saʿīd, and this is more authentic." I said: Its isnād in both cases revolves around Ibn Faḍālah, who is truthful but practices tadlīs, and he explicitly stated that he heard it, as you see, so it is ḥasan in its isnād. The ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah that al-Tirmidhī referred to is in the wording: "The worst of my ummah..." and it will come, and part of it has already been mentioned under ḥadīth (751). There is also a supporting narration for this ḥadīth from Abū Thaʿlabah al-Khushani, which is recorded in "al-Mishkāt" (4797). Another is from Ibn ʿAbbās, in a shortened form, with the wording: "The best of you are those with the best character..." It was narrated by al-Bayhaqī in "al-Shuʿab" as mentioned in "al-Jāmiʿ."
