- "There is no contagion and no omen, but I like a good sign." Narrated by Muslim (7/33) and Aḥmad (2/507) from Muḥammad ibn Sīrīn from Abū Hurayrah.

- "There is no contagion and no omen, but bad luck is in three things: the woman, the horse, and the house." Narrated by al-Bukhārī (10/174-175, 199-200), Muslim (7/34), and Aḥmad (2/153) from Yūnus from Ibn Shihāb from Sālim from Ibn ʿUmar as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. - "There is no contagion and no omen and no owl. If there is an omen in anything, it is in the horse, the woman, and the house. If you hear of a plague in a land, do not enter it, and if it occurs in a land while you are there, do not flee from it." Narrated in this manner by Aḥmad (1/180) through the route of Hishām al-Dastawāʾī from Yaḥyá ibn Abī Kathīr from al-Ḥaḍramī ibn Lāḥiq from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib who said: I asked Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ about omens, and he rebuked me and said: Who told you? I disliked to tell him who told me, and he said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said. Then he mentioned it. It was also narrated by Abū Dāwūd (2/159) and al-Ṭaḥāwī (2/377, 381) through other routes from Yaḥyá without his saying: "If you hear..." etc. And it is a narration for Aḥmad (1/174). Its isnād is authentic; its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of the two Shaykhs, except for al-Ḥaḍramī ibn Lāḥiq, about whom Ibn Maʿīn said: There is no harm in him
