- "There is no contagion, no omen, and no bad luck in the month of Ṣafar. Avoid the leper as you would avoid a lion." Narrated by Ibn Wahb (106). ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī al-Zinād narrated to me from his father, who said: Men of satisfaction and contentment from the sons of the Companions and the early people told me that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. I said: This is a good chain, but it is mursal and has been authenticated as connected. Al-Bukhārī said in "al-Tārīkh al-Kabīr" (1/1/155-460): "Ibrāhīm ibn Ḥamzah narrated from al-Darāwardī from Muḥammad ibn Abī al-Zinād - and Ibrāhīm said: He is Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī al-Zinād who used to study with his father - from Abī al-Zinād from al-Aʿraj from Abū Hurayrah from the Prophet ﷺ: Avoid the leper." Al-Khaṭīb narrated it in "al-Tārīkh" from the path of al-Bukhārī, then said (2-307): "There are two errors in this ḥadīth." 1 - (The first) is al-Darāwardī's narration from Abī al-Zinād. 2 - The second: Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān's narration from his grandfather Abī al-Zinād. It has been mentioned that Muḥammad did not narrate it from his grandfather, and that al-Wāqidī was the only one to narrate from Muḥammad. This ḥadīth of al-Darāwardī has been narrated correctly by others besides al-Bukhārī. He informed us (then he provided his chain to Ismāʿīl ibn Isḥāq who narrated to us from Ibrāhīm ibn Ḥamzah, and from the path of Yaḥyá ibn Muḥammad al-Ḥārithī, they both said: ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad narrated to us from Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr ibn ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān from Abī al-Zinād from al-Aʿraj from Abū Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said, and he mentioned the ḥadīth in full. Then it was narrated from the path of Abū Yaʿlá al-Mawṣilī who narrated to us from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Salām who narrated to us from ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad with it, then he said:
