wider from the head side and wider from the feet side. O Lord, grant him a place in Paradise." I said: This is an authentic chain. It is also recorded by him and by Abū Dāwūd (3332) through two other chains from ʿĀṣim ibn Kulayb from his father from a man of the Anṣār who said: "We went out with the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) for the funeral of a man from the Anṣār. When we returned, we were met by a caller from a woman of Quraysh who said: 'So-and-so invites you and those with you to food.' He turned back, and we sat with him. The food was brought, and the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) placed his hand [on the food], and the people placed their hands [on it]. They looked at the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and saw that he could not swallow his bite, so they withdrew their hands to see what the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) would do. He took his bite and spat it out, saying: 'I find ...'" [the ḥadīth continues].
- "Our Lord will appear to us on the Day of Resurrection smiling." It is recorded by Ibn Khuzaymah in "al-Tawḥīd" (153), al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr," and Tamām in "al-Fawāʾid" (83/2), and by Aḥmad (4/407-408) through the route of Ḥammād ibn Salamah: ʿAlī ibn Zayd narrated to us from ʿUmārah al-Qurashī from Abū Burdah ibn Abī Mūsá from his father who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said, and he mentioned it. The wording of Aḥmad, which is also a narration of Ibn Khuzaymah, is: "Allāh will gather the nations on a plain on the Day of Resurrection. When it is decreed by Allāh to judge among His creation, He will present to each people what they used to worship, and they will follow them until they are thrown into the Fire. Then our Lord will come to us while we are on a high place, and He will say: 'Who are you?' We will say: 'We are the Muslims.' He will say: 'What are you waiting for?' They will say: 'We are waiting for our Lord.' He will say: 'Do you recognize Him if you see Him?'"
