- "The most complete of the believers in faith are those with the best character, who are gentle and approachable, those who are friendly and are befriended. There is no good in one who is neither friendly nor befriended." Narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in "his al-Muʿjam al-Ṣaghīr" (p. 125) and through him by Abū Nuʿaym in "Akhbār Aṣbahān" (2/67). Narrated to us by ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Dāwūd al-Sijistānī, narrated to us by ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥakam, narrated to us by Yaʿqūb ibn Abī ʿAbbād al-Qulzamī, narrated to us by Muḥammad ibn ʿUyainah from Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr ibn ʿAlqamah from Abū Salamah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. And he said: "No one narrated it from Muḥammad ibn ʿUyainah - the brother of Sufyān - except Yaʿqūb." I said: I did not find a biography for him, but the rest of the narrators are all trustworthy. In "al-Majmaʿ" (8/21): "Narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in al-Awsaṭ and al-Ṣaghīr, and in it is Yaʿqūb ibn Abī ʿAbbād al-Qulzamī, whom I did not know." I said: Then I recognized him, and he is Yaʿqūb ibn Isḥāq ibn Abī ʿAbbād, attributed to his grandfather. Ibn Abī Ḥātim said (4/203): "His status is truthful, there is no harm in him," and he was deemed trustworthy by al-Samʿānī, thus the isnād is confirmed, and all praise is due to Allāh. The complete ḥadīth has appeared in various separate narrations, so refer to the previous ḥadīth numbered (284). Among its supporting narrations is the following ḥadīth with the wording: "Indeed, the most beloved of you to me are those with the best character, who are gentle and approachable, those who are friendly and are befriended. And the most detested of you to me are the ones who walk around with gossip, causing division between loved ones, and seeking out the faults of the innocent."
