it was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Ṣaghīr" (172) through the chain of Ṣāliḥ al-Murrī from Saʿīd al-Jarīrī from Abū ʿUthmān al-Nahdī from Abū Hurayrah as a marfūʿ ḥadīth, and al-Ṭabarānī said: "No one narrated it from al-Jarīrī except Ṣāliḥ al-Murrī." I say: He is weak as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb," and therefore al-Mundhirī (3/260) indicated the weakness of the ḥadīth. Al-Haythamī (8/21) said: "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in al-Ṣaghīr and al-Awsaṭ, and it includes Ṣāliḥ ibn Bashīr al-Murrī, who is weak." His teacher al-ʿIrāqī (2/141) said: "Its chain is weak," and it was narrated by al-Khaṭīb (5/563) from al-Ṭabarānī. I say: However, the ḥadīth has many supporting narrations that elevate it to the level of ḥasan, including: "Indeed, the most beloved of you to me and the closest to me in the Hereafter are those with the best character, and the most hated of you to me and the farthest from me in the Hereafter are those with the worst character, the talkative, the boastful, and the arrogant." It was recorded by Aḥmad (4/193, 194) through the chain of Dāwūd from Makhūl from Abū Thaʿlabah al-Khushanī as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. This chain consists of narrators all of whom are trustworthy, the narrators of Muslim. Al-Haythamī (8/21) said: "It was narrated by Aḥmad and al-Ṭabarānī, and the men of Aḥmad are the men of the authentic collections." Al-Mundhirī (3/261) said the same, and mentioned that Ibn Ḥibbān also recorded it in his "Ṣaḥīḥ." I say: However, the ḥadīth is disconnected because Makhūl did not hear from Abū Thaʿlabah as stated in "al-Tahdhīb," but this disconnection is remedied by the ḥadīth coming through other chains, some of which will be mentioned
