and the ḥadīth has a corroborating narration from Jābir with the addition: "and no man should sleep alone in a house." Al-Haythamī said in "al-Majmaʿ" (8/104): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in al-Awsaṭ," and it includes Muḥammad ibn al-Qāsim al-Asadī, who was deemed trustworthy by Ibn Maʿīn, but weakened by Aḥmad and others, and the rest of its narrators are trustworthy. I say: This al-Asadī was said by al-Ḥāfiẓ in "al-Taqrīb": "They accused him of lying," so he should not be used as evidence. This addition is found in some chains of the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿUmar, which precedes this ḥadīth, so it should be relied upon for it.

Its reason, as in "al-Mustadrak" and al-Bayhaqī: "A man returned from a journey, and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) asked: 'Who accompanied you?' He replied: 'No one accompanied me.' The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) then mentioned it." Al-Ḥākim said: "Its isnād is authentic."
