and this ḥadīth is from his narration from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir, so there is no room for its criticism, especially since the ḥadīth has a supporting narration similar to it from Ibn ʿAbbās with al-Tirmidhī, who graded it as ḥasan, and I have referenced it in "al-Mishkāt" (4472). It does not include "at bedtime," but it is found with Aḥmad (1/274) and Ibn Ḥibbān (1440) through another route from him similarly. I said: Its isnād is authentic according to the conditions of Muslim. There is another supporting narration for the addition from the ḥadīth of Abū al-Nuʿmān Maʿbad ibn Hawdhah al-Anṣārī, raised with the wording: "Use antimony for the eyes, for it clears the vision and promotes hair growth." It was recorded by Aḥmad (3/476, 499-500) and Abū Dāwūd (2377), who said: "Yaḥyá ibn Maʿīn said to me: It is a rejected ḥadīth." I said: Its defect is that it is from the narration of al-Nuʿmān ibn Maʿbad ibn Hawdhah, who is unknown as stated in "al-Taqrīb." The ḥadīth was also recorded by Ibn Mājah (3495) and al-Ḥākim (4/207) from the ḥadīth of Jābir, raised without the addition, and al-Ḥākim said: "Its isnād is authentic."
