a follower of the Followers, with a difference in the name of their grandfather, and Allāh knows best. In summary, the isnād is weak due to the unknown status of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Rabīʿah, but I found a supporting narration that strengthens it, narrated by ʿIkrimah ibn ʿAmmār: Yaḥyá ibn Abī Kathīr told us, Abū Salamah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān told me, ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ told us, saying: "The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) sent for me and said: 'Was it not reported to me that you stand in prayer at night and fast during the day?' - and he mentioned the ḥadīth in full - and said: The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: 'Fast the fast of Dāwūd, for he was the most devout of people; he would fast one day and break his fast the next. You do not know, perhaps your life will be prolonged.'" It was recorded by Muslim (3/162-163) and Ibn Khuzaymah in his "Ṣaḥīḥ" (1/217/1), and the context is his. There is another supporting narration from Anas, raised [to the Prophet]. It was recorded by Abū Nuʿaym in "Akhbār Aṣbahān" (1/267). And from Ibn Judʿān from ʿAṭāʾ, in a mursal form. It was recorded by Ibn Naṣr in "al-Ṣalāh" (8/1). And from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yazīd ibn Rabīʿah al-Dimashqī, Abū Idrīs al-Khawlānī told us from Abū al-Dardāʾ, raised [to the Prophet]. It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Tārīkh" (3/1/229).
