he was among the people of virtue and jurisprudence. Yaʿqūb ibn Sufyān mentioned him in "The Trustworthy People of Egypt." Likewise, Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "The Trustworthy." The fact that Ibn Khuzaymah included his ḥadīth in "The Ṣaḥīḥ" indicates that he considered him trustworthy, and this is what I have concluded, so the ḥadīth is good. And Allāh knows best.

"Goodness is a habit, and evil is obstinacy. Whomever Allāh wishes good for, He gives him understanding of the religion." It was recorded by Ibn Mājah (1/95-96): Hishām ibn ʿAmmār narrated to us, al-Walīd ibn Muslim narrated to us: Marwān ibn Janāḥ narrated from Yūnus ibn Maysarah ibn Ḥalbas that he narrated to him, saying: I heard Muʿāwiyah ibn Abī Sufyān narrating from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) that he said: and he mentioned it. This isnād is good, its men are trustworthy, except for Marwān ibn Janāḥ, who is "not objectionable" as in "Taqrīb" following al-Dāraquṭnī. Ibn Ḥibbān narrated it in "Ṣaḥīḥ" through the path of Hishām ibn ʿAmmār with the same isnād and text as in "Mawārid al-Ẓamʾān" (82), and likewise Ibn ʿAdī recorded it in "al-Kāmil" (135/2) in the biography of Rūḥ ibn Janāḥ, who is the brother of Marwān ibn Janāḥ, but he mentioned "Rūḥ ibn Janāḥ" instead of "Marwān ibn Janāḥ," so I do not know if it is an error from the narrators, or if al-Walīd ibn Muslim narrated it from both brothers together, and Hishām narrated it from him, so he would narrate it from one at times and from the other at times. And Allāh knows best. It was also narrated by al-Ḍiyāʾ in "Muwāfaqāt Hishām ibn ʿAmmār" (58/2). Al-Qaḍāʿī recorded it in "Musnad al-Shihāb" (3/1) through the path of ʿAmr ibn ʿUthmān who said: al-Walīd ibn Muslim informed us about Marwān ibn Janāḥ with it.
