and the narrator from him is Saʿd, who Muslim did not include at all, and he is also weak. Al-Dhahabī himself mentioned him in "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ" and said: "Ibn Ḥibbān said: He was among those whose errors were excessive, and Ibn Maʿīn said: There is no harm in him." The ḥāfiẓ said: "Truthful, but he has mistakes." I say: Such an isnād does not reassure the heart of its authenticity, especially since what is preserved in the ḥadīth is "ten verses" instead of "a hundred" as previously mentioned. And Allāh knows best.
"Whoever recites a hundred verses in a night will not be written among the heedless, or will be written among the devout." It was recorded by Ibn Naṣr in "Qiyām al-Layl" (p. 66) and Ibn Khuzaymah in "Ṣaḥīḥ" (1/124/2), both with the same isnād, saying: Aḥmad ibn Saʿīd al-Dārimī narrated to us, ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥasan ibn Shaqīq narrated to us, Abū Ḥamzah (al-Sukkarī) informed us from al-Aʿmash from Abū Ṣāliḥ from Abū Hurayrah who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said. And this isnād is authentic according to the criteria of the two shaykhs. And his saying: "or will be written among the devout." is a doubt from some of its narrators, and it is something that should not be doubted in my view for two reasons: First: His saying: "will not be written among the heedless" has been established for one who stands with ten verses, as previously mentioned in the aforementioned ḥadīth. Second: His saying "will be written among the devout" has been established for one who stands with a hundred verses. ʿAbdullāh ibn Ziyād narrated from Muḥammad ibn Kaʿb al-Qurẓī from Ibn ʿUmar (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhumā) from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) who said:
