"whoever recites ten verses in a night will not be recorded among the heedless, and whoever recites a hundred verses will be recorded among the devout." It was narrated by al-Ḥākim (1/555-556) as a witness, and al-Dhahabī said: "I say: its isnād is weak." And I say this ʿAbd Allāh is apparently Ibn Samʿān al-Makhzūmī al-Madanī, and he is accused. However, its meaning has been conveyed in other ḥadīths; its first part is established from the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿAmr as mentioned earlier, and its other part is similarly established from the ḥadīth of Tamīm al-Dārī, which follows, and indeed it is authenticated through another route from Abū Ḥamzah, as will be mentioned under number (757).

"whoever recites a hundred verses in a night, the prayer of a night is recorded for him." It was narrated by al-Dārimī (2/464): Yaḥyá ibn Basṭām narrated to us, Yaḥyá ibn Ḥamzah narrated to us, Yazīd ibn Wāqid narrated to me, from Sulaymān ibn Mūsá, from Kathīr ibn Murrah, from Tamīm al-Dārī that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. I say: This isnād is good; its men are trustworthy and well-known except for Yaḥyá ibn Basṭām. Ibn Abī Ḥātim said (4/2/132): "I asked my father about him? He said: A truthful shaykh, there is no harm in his ḥadīth, a Qadarī, al-Bukhārī included him in 'The Book of Weak Narrators', so he is transferred from there." Then I saw it in "al-Musnad" (4/103) through the route of al-Haytham ibn Ḥumayd from Zayd ibn Wāqid with it, so the ḥadīth is authentic, and all praise is due to Allāh.
