exalted is Allāh above what the wrongdoers say, greatly exalted. They missed that the verse is an argument against them because its intended meaning—as clarified by the scholar Ibn al-Qayyim and others—is that Allāh, exalted is He, in His wisdom and justice in His rulings, is not to be questioned by anyone about what He does, because all His judgments are clear justice, leaving no need for questioning. Shaykh Yūsuf al-Dijwī has a beneficial treatise interpreting this verse, which he may have sourced from Ibn al-Qayyim, and it should be consulted. This is a brief word regarding the aforementioned ḥadīths, in which we attempted to dispel the doubts some people have about them. If we have succeeded in this, then that is well and good; otherwise, I refer the reader to the extensive works on this critical subject, such as the aforementioned book by Ibn al-Qayyim and the comprehensive writings of his teacher Ibn Taymiyyah, which cover important topics, this being one of them.

- "Whenever Allāh intends good for any household among the Arabs and non-Arabs, He brings them into Islam, then trials befall them like clouds." It was narrated by Aḥmad (3/477), al-Ḥākim (1/34), and also by al-Bayhaqī in "al-Asmāʾ" (p. 117), and by Ibn al-Aʿrābī in "Ḥadīth Saʿdān ibn Naṣr" (1/4/1). Al-Ḥākim said: "It is authentic and has no defect." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him, and it is as they said. Al-Ḥākim also narrated (1/61-62) through the route of Ibn Shihāb who said: "ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb went out to Syria with us, and with us was Abū ʿUbaydah ibn al-Jarrāḥ. They came upon a ford, and ʿUmar was on a camel, so he dismounted, removed his sandals, placed them on his shoulder, and took the reins..
