it strengthens the ḥadīth. And Allāh knows best. Third: from Thawbān from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) who said: and he mentioned it without saying "and those who seek separation." It was recorded by al-Tirmidhī (1/323), Ibn ʿAdī, and al-Ḥarbī in "Gharīb al-Ḥadīth" (5/185/1) from Layth from Abū al-Khaṭṭāb from Zurʿah from Abū Idrīs from him. Al-Tirmidhī said: "This is a strange ḥadīth, and its isnād is not strong." I said: Its defect is Layth, who is Ibn Abī Sulaym, weak, and his teacher Abū al-Khaṭṭāb is unknown, as the ḥāfiẓ said. And it has another defect, as Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned (1/304-305) through the route of Abū Bakr ibn ʿAyyāsh from Layth with it, except that he did not mention Abū Idrīs in its isnād and said: "And this is the correct one, they connected it, they added a man to it." I said: But the ḥadīth is authentic, supported by the previous routes. Fourth: ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir al-Juhanī with the wording: "Indeed, those who seek khulʿ and those who seek separation are the hypocrites." It was narrated by al-Ṭabarī (vol. 4, no. 4842, page 568) who said: Abū Kurayb narrated to us, Ḥafṣ ibn Bishr narrated to us, Qays ibn al-Rabīʿ narrated to us from Ashʿath ibn Sawwār from al-Ḥasan from Thābit ibn Yazīd from ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir al-Juhanī who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "and he mentioned it." I said: And this isnād is weak due to Ashʿath ibn Sawwār, for he is weak as stated in "al-Taqrīb." Similarly, Qays ibn al-Rabīʿ, and al-Haythamī criticized it solely because of him (5/5) after attributing it to al-Ṭabarānī and said:
