as a guarantee or as a seizure? The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) replied: so he mentioned it. Then he said: "And some of these reports, even if they are mursal, are strengthened by their corroborations along with what has been previously mentioned of the connected [narrations]." By saying "by their corroborations," he refers to the ḥadīth of Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh and the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿAbbās. As for the ḥadīth of Jābir, it was recorded by al-Ḥākim (3/48-49). And from him, by al-Bayhaqī (6/89) through the route of Ibn Isḥāq who said: ʿĀṣim ibn ʿUmar ibn Qatādah narrated to me from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Jābir from his father Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh. that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) went to Ḥunayn - and he mentioned the ḥadīth, and in it - then the Messenger of Allāh sent to Ṣafwān ibn Umayyah and asked him for coats of mail he had, one hundred coats of mail and what was needed to equip them. He said: "Is it a seizure, O Muḥammad?" He replied: "Rather, it is a guaranteed loan, until we return them to you." Then the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) set out. Al-Ḥākim said: "It has a ṣaḥīḥ isnād." And al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I say: It is only ḥasan due to the well-known discussion regarding Ibn Isḥāq, and it is established that his ḥadīth is ḥasan when he explicitly states he heard it, as in this case. As for the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿAbbās, it was recorded by al-Bayhaqī (6/88) from al-Ḥākim from Isḥāq ibn ʿAbd al-Wāḥid al-Qurashī, who said: Khālid ibn ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us from Khālid al-Ḥadhdhāʾ from him. that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) borrowed coats of mail and weapons from Ṣafwān ibn Umayyah during the Battle of Ḥunayn. He said: "O Messenger of Allāh, is it a loan to be returned?" He said: "A loan to be returned." I say: This isnād is weak due to its defect, which is Isḥāq. Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥāfiẓ said: "He is abandoned in ḥadīth." And al-Khaṭīb said:
مضمونة أم غصبا؟ فقال رسول الله ﷺ: فذكره. ثم قال: " وبعض هذه الأخبار وإن كان مرسلا فإنه يقوى بشواهده مع ما تقدم من الموصول ". ويشير بقوله " بشواهده " إلى حديث جابر بن عبد الله وحديث ابن عباس. أما حديث جابر، فأخرجه الحاكم (٣ / ٤٨ - ٤٩) . وعنه البيهقي (٦ / ٨٩) من طريق ابن إسحاق حدثني عاصم بن عمر بن قتادة عن عبد الرحمن بن جابر عن أبيه جابر بن عبد الله. أن رسول الله ﷺ سار إلى حنين - فذكر الحديث وفيه - ثم بعث رسول الله إلى صفوان بن أمية فسأله أدراعا عنده مائة درع وما يصلحها من عدتها، فقال أغصبا يا محمد؟ فقال: بل عارية مضمونة، حتى نؤديها عليك. ثم خرج رسول الله ﷺ سائرا. وقال الحاكم: " صحيح الإسناد ". ووافقه الذهبي. قلت: وإنما هو حسن فقط للكلام المعروف في ابن إسحاق، والمتقرر أنه حسن الحديث إذا صرح بالتحديث، كما في هذا. وأما حديث ابن عباس، فأخرجه البيهقي (٦ / ٨٨) عن الحاكم عن إسحاق بن عبد الواحد القرشي، حدثنا خالد بن عبد الله عن خالد الحذاء عنه. أن رسول الله ﷺ استعار من صفوان بن أمية أدراعا وسلاحا في غزوة حنين، فقال: يا رسول الله أعارية مؤداة؟ قال: عارية مؤداة. قلت: وهذا سند ضعيف علته إسحاق هذا قال أبو علي الحافظ: متروك الحديث. وقال الخطيب:
