"he has little precision in narrating ḥadīth, and he makes errors. Abū ʿAbd Allāh, meaning Imām Aḥmad, said: I do not know him." Al-Haythamī said in "al-Majmaʿ" (4/259): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī, and in it is Abū Bilāl al-Ashʿarī, whom al-Dāraquṭnī deemed weak." Thus he said, but Abū Bilāl is not in the isnād of the "al-Awsaṭ," so I do not know whether he was omitted from the copy of "Zawāʾid al-Muʿjamayn," or if there was an error by the scribe or printer in "al-Majmaʿ," for it came after this: "And from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: Marry virgins, for they have sweeter mouths, more fertile wombs, and are more content with little. It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī, and in it is Abū Bilāl al-Ashʿarī, whom al-Dāraquṭnī deemed weak." This citation is exactly like the citation of Jābir's ḥadīth, and such a duplication is unusual, so it is possible that the scribe's or printer's attention shifted from the first citation to this one, resulting in it being written or printed twice in the two ḥadīths, causing the first ḥadīth's citation to be lost! I became more certain of this possibility when I saw that al-Munāwī quoted al-Haythamī as saying: "In it is Baḥr ibn Kunyaz—in the original: Yaḥyá ibn Kathīr, which is a typographical error—the water carrier, who is abandoned."
