I said: And all its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of al-Bukhārī, except for al-Walīd ibn ʿUtbah, about whom al-Bukhārī said in "his Tārīkh": "Known for ḥadīth." As for Abū Ḥātim, he said: "Unknown." I said: Al-Bukhārī recognized him, and the one who recognizes is a proof against the one who does not. Especially if the one recognizing is like al-Bukhārī, the Commander of the Faithful in ḥadīth. So the ḥadīth, if it is not good in itself from this chain, is at least good due to other chains that precede it. Especially since there is another chain from Ibn ʿUmar, narrated by ʿAmr ibn Dīnār, the steward of the family of al-Zubayr, from Sālim ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar, from Ibn ʿUmar, from ʿUmar that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it similarly and added at the end: "whatever it may be, as long as he lives." It was recorded by al-Tirmidhī and Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (6/265) and al-Tirmidhī said: "A rare ḥadīth, and ʿAmr ibn Dīnār, the steward of the family of al-Zubayr, is a Basran shaykh and he is not strong in ḥadīth and he alone narrated ḥadīths from Sālim ibn ʿAbd Allāh." I said: What indicates his weakness is his inconsistency in the isnād of this ḥadīth, as he narrated it once like this and another time he said: from Sālim from Ibn ʿUmar as marfūʿ. He did not mention ʿUmar in its isnād. It was recorded by Ibn Mājah (3892), ʿAbd ibn Ḥumayd in "al-Muntakhab min al-Musnad" (6/2), Ibn al-Aʿrābī in "al-Muʿjam" (folio 238/2), al-Kharāʾiṭī in "Faḍīlat al-Shukr" (1/2), Tamām al-Rāzī in "al-Fawāʾid" (folio 117/1), al-Ḥanāʾī in "al-Fawāʾid" (3/258/2), and al-Baghawī in "Sharḥ al-Sunnah" (1/149/2) from various chains from him with it.
