al-Dhahabī commented on it by saying: "I say: Ṣāliḥ is abandoned." Al-Mundhirī preceded him in a similar manner, saying in "al-Targhīb" (2/277) while commenting on al-Ḥākim: "There is no doubt about his asceticism, but Abū Dāwūd and al-Nasāʾī abandoned him." However, a supporting narration with a weak isnād has been reported, narrated by Aḥmad (2/177) from Ibn ʿAmr with a similar account. It includes Ibn Lahīʿah, who is weak, and at the beginning of his ḥadīth there is an addition: "Hearts are vessels, some are more receptive than others, so when you ask Allāh..."
- "When you ask Allāh, ask Him with the palms of your hands and do not ask Him with the backs of them." It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd (1486), as well as al-Baghawī, Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim, Ibn al-Sakan, and al-Maʿmarī in "al-Yawm wa-al-Laylah," and Ibn Qāniʿ as mentioned in "al-Iṣābah," and Ibn ʿAsākir (12/230-231) through the chain of Ḍamḍam from Shurayḥ, who reported from Abū Ẓabyah that Abū Baḥriyyah al-Sakūnī narrated to him from Mālik ibn Yasār al-Sakūnī, then al-ʿAwfī, that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. I say: This isnād is good. This Ḍamḍam is Ibn Zurʿah, who was deemed reliable by a group, including Ibn Maʿīn, while Abū Ḥātim considered him weak. Al-Ḥāfiẓ said: "Truthful but errs." The rest are trustworthy, and al-Ḥāfiẓ's statement about Abū Ẓabyah: "Acceptable" is not acceptable, rather it is insufficient, as the man was deemed reliable by a group of the early scholars, including Ibn Maʿīn, and al-Dāraqutnī said: "There is no harm in him."
