and the other: his (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) statement in another ḥadīth: "For His cloak is majesty and His lower garment is might..." It was narrated by Aḥmad and others in a ḥadīth of Faḍālah ibn ʿUbayd, which follows this. (Note) Al-Mundhirī included this ḥadīth in "al-Targhīb" (4/16) from the narration of Muslim from Abū Saʿīd and Abū Hurayrah with the wording: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: Allāh says: Might is My lower garment and majesty is My cloak... This contradicts what is in "Muslim" and likewise al-Bukhārī as you see. Then he said: "And al-Burqānī narrated it in his "Mustakhraj" from the path that Muslim narrated, and its wording... he mentioned it with the wording he attributed to Muslim except that its completion is with the wording of al-Bukhārī, and Muslim's wording is abbreviated: 'Whoever disputes with Me, I will punish him.'" And with the wording of al-Burqānī, al-Suyūṭī included it in "al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaghīr" and attributed it to Samawīh. And there is another path for the ḥadīth from Abū Hurayrah from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) in what he narrates from his Lord (glorified and exalted be He), he said: "Majesty is My cloak, so whoever disputes with Me over My cloak, I will break him." It was narrated by al-Ḥākim (1/61) from the path of Sahl ibn Bakār, Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us from Qatādah from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib from him, and he said: "Authentic according to the conditions of Muslim," and al-Dhahabī agreed with him, and it is as they said.
