"There is nothing from the body except that it complains to Allāh about the tongue due to its sharpness." It was recorded by Abū Yaʿlá in "Musnad" (1/4), Ibn al-Sunnī in "ʿAmal al-Yawm wa-al-Laylah" (7), Ibn Abī al-Dunyā in "Al-Waraʿ" (folio 165/2), Abū Bakr Ibn al-Naqūr in the first part of "Al-Fawāʾid al-Ḥisān" (133/1), Abū Nuʿaym in "Al-Ruwāt ʿan Saʿīd Ibn Manṣūr" (209/1-2), and al-Bayhaqī in "Al-Shuʿab" (9/65/2) from ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad from Zayd ibn Aslam from his father. "ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb saw Abū Bakr (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) extending his tongue, so he said: What are you doing, O successor of the Messenger of Allāh? He replied: This is what has brought me to the brink, as the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said." Then he mentioned it. Ibn al-Naqūr said: "This ḥadīth was uniquely narrated by Abū Usāmah Zayd ibn Aslam, the client of ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, and it is recorded in the two Ṣaḥīḥs. He narrated it from his father Abū Khālid Aslam, who was from the captives of Yemen, and it is said: he was from Bajāwah. His ḥadīth is with al-Bukhārī alone, and there is a difference about Zayd. It was narrated by Hishām ibn Saʿd, Muḥammad ibn ʿAjlān, Dāwūd ibn Qays, and ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar al-ʿUmrī in the same way as ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz's narration that we have narrated, and it was narrated by Sufyān al-Thawrī from Zayd ibn Aslam from his father from Abū Bakr, and he said in it: "Aslam said: I saw Abū Bakr." And it was said: This is a mistake from al-Thawrī, and it was narrated by Saʿīd ibn al-Khamīs from Zayd from ʿUmar from Abū Bakr without mentioning Aslam, and the correct version of that is the narration of ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad ibn Abī ʿUbayd al-Darāwardī and those who followed him from Zayd from his father from ʿUmar from Abū Bakr as we have presented it. And Allāh knows best." I said: The ḥadīth has a sound isnād according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī, for al-Darāwardī is trustworthy, and although he is one of the individuals of Muslim, he was followed by the group mentioned by Ibn al-Naqūr, so the ḥadīth from Zayd ibn Aslam is authentic and well-known.
