I said: and its isnād is authentic. Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq corroborated them: Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir told me with the addition at the end: "She said: And the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) did not shake hands with any woman from us." It was recorded by Aḥmad and al-Ḥākim (4/71) with a good isnād. It has a supporting narration from the ḥadīth of Asmāʾ bint Yazīd, similar but abridged. It was recorded by al-Ḥumaydī (368), Aḥmad (6/454, 459), al-Dūlābī in "al-Kuná" (2/128), Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr in "al-Tamhīd" (3/24/1), and Abū Nuʿaym in "Akhbār Aṣbahān" (1/293) through the route of Shahr ibn Ḥawshab from her. In it, with Aḥmad: "Asmāʾ said to him: Will you not uncover your hand for us, O Messenger of Allāh? He said to her: I do not shake hands with women." And Shahr is weak due to his memory, and this addition suggests that women would take his (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) hand during the pledge from over his garment (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). There are some other narrations about this, but they are all mursal as mentioned by al-Ḥāfiẓ in "al-Fatḥ" (8/488), so none of them are used as evidence, especially since they contradict what is more authentic than them, such as this ḥadīth and the one following it, and the ḥadīth of ʿĀʾishah regarding his (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) pledge to women. She said: "By Allāh, his hand (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) never touched the hand of a woman in the pledge; he only pledged them by saying: I have accepted your pledge on that." It was recorded by al-Bukhārī. As for the statement of Umm ʿAṭiyyah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhā):
